Joe Barton Is the Republican Energy Policy
By Taylor Marsh Posted Jun. 18, 2010
If you want to know what U.S. energy policy would look like if Republicans take the House in November, see Rep. Joe Barton, who is the ranking GOP member on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Since 1990, he has received more than 1.9 million dollars from the oil and gas industry. Barton is also a reminder of what President Obama and the administration inherited. However, that hardly gets Obama or Interior Sect. Ken Salazar off the hook, because BP’s Deepwater Horizon well was given a green light on their watch.
Senate Democrats Getting More Pessimistic on Cap and Trade in Energy Bill
By Robin Bravender Posted Jun. 18, 2010
Senate Democrats may have emerged from their much hyped caucus meeting without a clear plan for this summer’s energy bill, but they appeared to agree on one point, Cap and trade doesn''t have the votes.
Gulf Oil Spill Worsens, but What About the Safety of Gas Fracking?
By Margot Roosevelt Posted Jun. 18, 2010
Imagine a siege of hydrocarbons spewing from deep below ground, polluting water and air, sickening animals and threatening the health of unsuspecting Americans. And no one knows how long it will last.
Israel Could Benefit From Hamas
By Ian S. Lustick Posted Jun. 17, 2010
The Israeli government says it’s in a death struggle with Hamas, cast as a terrorist movement affiliated with al-Qaida and threatening the entire Western world.
BP Chairman Cares About Small People!
By Kirsten Korosec Posted Jun. 17, 2010
The tiny positive jolt to BP’s reputation following its agreement to create a 20 billion escrow fund to compensate victims of the Gulf oil spill died with six little words from its chairman Carl Henric Svanberg: “We care about the small people.”
The Folly of BioFuels
By Greg Scheurich Posted Jun. 17, 2010
You may never have never heard of Patricia Woertz, or Archer Daniels Midland. Woertz is the CEO of ADM, America’s 27th largest company, and it’s the largest company headed by a female in the US. The reason you ought to care is that Woertz and ADM have the power to make your life more expensive, much more expensive. And they have been aggressively exercising that power for over 30 years.
Azerbaijan Reportedly More Than Doubles Gas Price for Turkey
By News.az Posted Jun. 17, 2010
Turkey has agreed to a higher price for gas from Azerbaijan as part of Stage 1 of the development of the Shah Deniz gas condensate field.
$100 Oil Now Possible
By Daryl Guppy Posted Jun. 17, 2010
Oil prices have been on the rise, in tandem with the improving global equity markets, as investors shift their attention from euro-zone debt problems to the generally positive economic indicators coming from the U.S. and Asia.
Half a World Away, Oil Spills a Way of Life
By New York Times Posted Jun. 17, 2010
Big oil spills are no longer news in this vast, tropical land. The Niger Delta, where the wealth underground is out of all proportion with the poverty on the surface, has endured the equivalent of the Exxon Valdez spill every year for 50 years by some estimates.
China’s Energy Grab Is No Green Affair
By Michael J. Economides Posted Jun. 17, 2010
During President Obama’s Oval Office address to the nation on the subject of the BP oil spill, the chief executive pointed to China as a leader in clean energy investment in hopes of urging Congress to enact legislation that would encourage the U.S. to expand its own green energy spending.
