Australian Greens to Oppose New Great Barrier Reef Coal Ports
From Coal Guru
The Australian reported that Christine Milne has vowed the Australian Greens will oppose the expansion or development of new coal ports in the Great Barrier Reef catchment, saying the industry is incompatible with tourism.
Campaigning on north Queensland’s Whitsunday Coast, the Greens leader today launches the party’s policy on protecting the Great Barrier Reef.
Meeting tourist operators in the holiday hub of Airlie Beach, Senator Ms Milne said that the Greens would say no to any expansion of the already massive Abbot Point coal terminal put on hold until after the election by Labor and further dumping of port dredging spoil into the reef waters.
