Iran to Set Up Oil Refinery in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Asim Hussain has said that Iran, in cooperation with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) will set up an oil refinery at South Western City of Gwadar.

Talking to reporters after holding a meeting with Rostam Qassemi, Iran’s minister of Oil, he said that the refinery would refine 400,000 barrels of oil per day. He said that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari would soon visit Iran to finalise the agreement for establishing the oil refinery. “We had very good meetings and we had a lot of bilateral talks especially on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and setting up oil refinery at Gwadar with PSO,” Dr Asim told Irna.

Answering a question, he said that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project would be completed on the scheduled time. He said that a Pakistani delegation would visit Iran to finalise Engineering Procurement and Construction agreement on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

Earlier, Dr Asim Hussain held a meeting with Iranian delegation led by Iran’s Petroleum Minister Rostam Qassemi. During the meeting, expert groups were set up to discuss bilateral cooperation in energy sector. Rostam Qassemi said that there is lot of scope to enhance cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in energy sector.
