US Company Spends USD 2.5 billion to Work on Indonesian Coal

Celanese Corporation, chemical manufacturer from the United States, will build a gas processing plant from coal in Indonesia, a project worth USD 2.5 billion.

Mr Muhammad Hidayat Soleman, Industry Minister, said that the construction will be carried out in late 2013.

The plant will process low calorie coal into gas and ethanol, with an annual capacity of 1.1 million tonne. The plant will begin operating in 2016, three years after being built.

Mr Scott Marciel, US Ambassador to Indonesia, said that the end product will be allotted to meet Indonesia’s fuel need. He is optimistic that the product will be absorbed entirely as Indonesia has a high need for.
