Australia Call to Halt Coal Expansions

The Herald reported that Hunter based and environment groups and campaigners have joined a national campaign calling for a halt to the expansion of coal exports.
Dozens of environmental academics, activists and groups were signatories to a full-page advertisement that appeared on January 14. They included the Hunter Community Environment Centre and Doctors for the Environment.
The advertisement, titled ‘‘Let’s talk about coal’’ said that coal exports are Australia’s biggest contribution to climate change and Australians were suffering its impacts.
The advertisement said that ‘‘We understand that it is not easy for Australians to talk about the role coal plays in driving climate change, but we can no longer maintain our silence.”
Greenpeace Australia Pacific paid for and organised the ad.
