On 21 December, the European Commission announced that it will support Ukraine’s energy reforms and local development with additional funding of €68 million.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle said, “this decision shows that we remain committed to support Ukraine on its path to political association and economic integration with the EU and that energy reform is at the core of our work in this area. The measures we are proposing are fundamental for citizens – in terms of local governance and development, including civil society organisations.”
The development programme comes from the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). €45 million will be allocated for the implementation of Ukraine’s energy strategy while €23 million will be given to Community based approach to local development.
