UK Energy Sector Welcomes Policy Reforms

The UK government can be pleased with most of the reaction to its proposed energy market reforms, published Thursday. At first glance, the proposals seem both to allay industry concerns and to reflect favorably on the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
The UK energy sector now has the guarantees on pricing it was seeking to enable the sort of large-scale infrastructure investment, in renewable energy, nuclear and gas, needed to keep the lights on.
Germany’s Siemens, Europe’s dominant wind turbine manufacturer, said the government has addressed “some of the key issues that have previously created uncertainty in the market.” Alstom, the French engineering company, described it as “the fundamental building block” upon which companies can look to invest in the UK.
