Deputies Pepper Spray Keystone Pipeline Protesters

Protesting the TransCanada Keystone pipeline got up close and personal near the East Texas town of Wells.

Cherokee County deputies used pepper spray on four protesters, including a 75-year-old woman from Nacogdoches.

The peppered protesters were among dozens of demonstrators who formed a human chain around heavy machinery to stop workers from clearing land in the proposed path of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

And deputies arrested at least one person who tried to block a cherry picker used to remove protesters in a tree.

Actress Darryl Hannah ended up behind bars last month when she and another woman tried to stop a bulldozer from clearing land in Wood County, Texas.
