Texas landowners prepare for battle in oil pipeline dispute
SUMNER, Texas — Across the vast oil fields of Texas, a battle is brewing over an oil pipeline designed to bring Canadian oil to refineries on the Gulf Coast.
Landowners like Julia Trigg Crawford want to prevent TransCanada from taking their land for the pipeline and are threatening to slow down the project.
“We’ve fought wars over it. We stood our ground at the Alamo for it,” said Crawford, who owns and manages the Red’Arc Farm in Sumner, Texas. “There’s a lot of reasons that Texans are very proud of their land and proud when you own that land that you are master of that land and you control that land.”
