Shell Profits Slide As Weaker Energy Prices Take Toll

Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) Thursday posted worse-than-expected second-quarter earnings, as higher oil and gas output failed to compensate for weaker crude prices and slack consumer demand.

Brent prices averaged 7% less than in the corresponding period last year but it was lower U.S. natural gas prices that particularly dented profits at Europe’s largest energy firm.
